Abstract

The European Elections of 2004 was recognized as an important one because it was held at the time of the enlargement of European Union and on the way of the consolidation of power of the European Parliament after the Declaration of Nice. Especially when we discuss about the democratic deficit of the European Union, we easily come to mind the European Parliament that is one institution that is composed of the members who are selected by the people itself. We analyse the result of the European Elections of 2004 in the accordance of the responsible party government model. We investigate whether the european political groups are a party which is enough coherent and they offer different policies and finally the relationship between the European Parliament and the European citizen. As a result, the European political groups are quite coherent and unified but they are hard to offer different policies because of the characteristics of organization of european parliament. And European citizen recognize the European Parliament as an important institution but they are not really interested in the european elections and in the activities of European Parliament. This will make the European Parliament weaker. for the consolidation of the democracy of European Union, we need to enhance the people's interest towards the European Parliament.
