본 연구에서는 과학기술관련 사회쟁점(SSI) 교육에서 위험에 대한구체적인 이해와 분석과정의 중요성을 강조하면서, 위험교육과 연계된 SSI 교육을 수행하기 위해 학생들이 갖추어야 할 위험소양에 대해정의하고, 이를 측정할 수 있는 척도인 ‘SSI 맥락에서의 위험소양인식 척도’(Scale for Perceived Risk Literacy in the context of Socioscientific Issues; SPRL-SSI)를 개발하였다. SPRL-SSI 개발을위해 위험 및 위험 교육, SSI 교육 분야 문헌을 분석하였으며, 통계적으로 엄밀한 절차를 거쳐 신뢰도와 타당도를 확보하였다. 개발된SPRL-SSI는 크게 과학기술 본성에 대한 이해, 위험판단 역량, 위험인식과 대응의지의 세 영역으로 구성되어 있으며, 각각 2-3개의 하위요인을 포함하고 있다. SPRL-SSI에 대한 대학생들의 응답을 분석한결과, 전공과 학년에 따라 위험판단 역량, 위험인식과 대응의지 영역의 여러 요인에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 나타냈다. 그러나 성별에 따라서는 한 요인을 제외하고는 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았다. SPRL-SSI는 위험교육에서 강조하는 핵심 요소들을 포함하고 있을뿐만 아니라, SSI에 맥락화시켰기 때문에 과학교육 맥락에서 활용가능성이 높을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
Recognizing the need to integrate socioscientific issues (SSI) education and risk education, this study aimed to define the concept of risk literacy that students should develop to effectively engage in SSI education informed by risk perspectives. To achieve this aim, we developed the Scale for Perceived Risk Literacy in the context of Socioscientific Issues (SPRL-SSI). The development of the SPRL-SSI was grounded in an extensive review of the literature in the fields of risk, risk education, and SSI education, and followed statistically rigorous procedures to establish strong evidence for its reliability and validity. The finalized SPRL-SSI consists of 37 Likert scale of items under three main domains: a) Understanding the nature of science and technology, b) Risk judgment competency, and c) Risk awareness and willingness to respond. Each domain includes two to three factors. An analysis of college students’ responses to the SPRL-SSI revealed that most factors in the domains of risk judgment competency and risk awareness and willingness to respond showed statistically significant differences based on students’ major and school year. However, aside from one factor, no significant differences were found based on gender. The SPRL-SSI not only incorporates key components emphasized in risk education but also contextualizes them within SSI education, suggesting its strong potential for application in science education fields.
