Abstract
Since there exist negative side effects of jaycustomers' behavior to firms, researches on jaycustomers' behavior have gained focus from academia and fields. But previous studies were exploratory researches investigating the typology, reason and firm's managerial responses toward jaycustomers’ behavior. Therefore, hardly there were researches on the psychological process of general consumers who encounter jaycustomer’s behavior. This research investigates the responses of general consumers who encounter a jaycustomer's behavior. We conducted three studies which were based on scenarios. In study 1, as jaycustomer behavior was set as experimental group and general complaint behavior was set as control group, we investigated firm loyalty of general consumers' when they see a jaycustomer's behavior. For the interaction of regulatory focus, promotion focus revealed significantly higher firm loyalty at jaycustomer behavior group than ordinary complaint group but prevention focus didn’t reveal significant difference between jaycustomer behavior group and ordinary complaint behavior group. In Study 2, when the degree of damage of jaycustomer's behavior was high, firm loyalty of general consumers revealed lower than when the degree of damage of jaycustomer's behavior was low. For the interaction of regulatory focus, prevention focus revealed lower firm loyalty when the degree of damage of jaycustomer's behavior was high, but promotion focus did not reveal significant difference between high damage and low damage. In Study 3, general consumers’ firm loyalty was higher when firm's response to jaycustomer's behavior was rational than emotional. For the interaction of regulatory focus, prevention focused consumers did not reveal significantly different firm loyalty between the firm's managerial reactions but promotion focused consumers revealed higher firm loyalty when response was rational than when it was emotional. This research contributes by investigating the effect of jaycustomer’s behavior to general consumers encountering a jaycustomer.
