Abstract

The accessibility of roads in public spaces on university campuses is an important indicator to measure the reasonable allocation of environmental resources in campus public spaces. At present, there are more studies on the environmental design of campus common space, but there are relatively insufficient studies on the accessibility of campus common space roads. Therefore, this study aims to apply scientific evaluation methods to provide a new perspective and new indicators for quantitative evaluation of campus public space construction. The research method is to analyze the road accessibility of the university's public space through the theory of space syntax and formulate improvement plans. The overall accessibility, local accessibility, and perceptual accessibility of the public space roads on the Gwangju campus of Chonnam University were compared and analyzed through three variables, including overall integration, local integration, and clarity. The results of the study show that the local accessibility and perceived accessibility results are good, but the overall accessibility needs to be improved. In addition, grid type roads are beneficial to the accessibility of spatial roads, and natural type roads are difficult to grasp compared with other road types. Synthesizing the above research results, the following suggestions are made. First, to establish a campus-wide road circulation process to improve the overall accessibility. Secondly, strengthen the road connectivity between the green space and other spaces to increase the local accessibility. Thirdly, to open up the passages of each space in area B and improve the perceived accessibility of roads. In the future research, the road proximity of the campus common space will be measured based on the proximity analysis and evaluation in the relationship between space and users, combined with the axial space map and the raised space map. By doing so, we will provide more meaningful ideas for the development of public space and road proximity of university campuses.
