실내 공간디자인에서 베이비 스키마 조형 특성에 관한 연구

우리의 일상은 수많은 귀여움의 시각 특성을 갖는 사물이나 공간으로 둘러싸여 있다. 귀여움의 심상은동물행동학자 콘라트 로렌츠에 의해 베이비 스키마라고 정의되고 구조화되었다. 베이비 스키마로 정의된 6가지 특성은 각각 혹은 전체로 귀여움의 표상 기호가 되고 귀여움은 생식과 양육이라는 중요한목적과 더불어 전 인류가 공유하는 대표적인 미의식으로 가치를 지닌다. 하지만, 디자인에서 베이비스키마에관한 선행 연구들은 주로 시각 및 일부 산업디자인에 한정되고 그마저도 주로 얼굴의 형상을띄고 있는 눈, 코, 입과 직접 연상되는 대상을 위주로 연구되고 활용되었다. 따라서 이 연구는 실내 공간에서 베이비 스키마 조형의 특성과 미의식을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위한 연구 방법으로첫째, 공간 디자인의 조형 요소와 초 정상 자극의 미의식을 정리함으로써, 실내 공간 조형에서 나타나는 베이비 스키마 특성이 초 정상 자극으로써 환원된 미의식을 갖는다는 점을 확인한다. 둘째, 이를뒷받침할 이론적 배경으로 콘라트 로렌츠의 행동학적 연구와 신경학적 시각 인지 구조를 통해 처리되는 조형의 언어를 탐구한다. 셋째, 공간 주파수 이론의 구조로 귀여운 조형의 단서를 환원하는 실험을통하여 그 특성과 미의식을 도출한다. 마지막으로 베이비 스키마 특성이 나타나는 사례를 제시, 분석함으로써 형태와 물성으로 공간에 드러난 조형의 미의식을 탐구한다. 아기 얼굴을 볼 때 활성화되는정서적 심상은 베이비 스키마 조형 요소들에서도 나타났다. 눈, 코, 입을 따로 떼어 보았을 때 정확한얼굴을 가늠하기 힘든 것처럼 베이비 스키마의 조형이 조화를 이루어야만 올바른 귀여움의 표상과 효과를 낼 수 있다는 점은 중요하다. 본 연구를 시작으로 베이비 스키마의 조형 특성에 관한 정량적 실험을 통한 귀여운 공간의 다각적인 연구가 이루어지기를 기대한다.
Abstract
Our daily life is surrounded by objects or spaces with numerous cute visual characteristics. The image of cuteness was defined and structured as a baby schema by ethologist Konrad Lorenz. The characteristics defined by the baby schema each or all become symbolic signs of cuteness, and cuteness has a value as a sense of beauty shared by all mankind along with the important purpose of reproduction and nurture. However, the preceding studies on baby schema in design are mainly limited to visual and some industrial designs, and even that is mainly studied and utilized on subjects that are directly associated with the eyes, nose, and mouth, which are mainly in the shape of the face. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate the characteristics and aesthetic consciousness of baby schema modeling in an indoor space. As a research method for this, first, by arranging the formative elements of spatial design and the aesthetic consciousness of supernormal stimuli, it is confirmed that the baby schema characteristics appearing in indoor space modeling have a reduced aesthetic consciousness as supernormal stimuli. Second, as a theoretical background to support this, we explore the language of design processed through animal behavioral studies and visual cognitive structures. Third, the characteristics and aesthetic consciousness are derived through the experiment of peak-shifting the cues of cute modeling with the structure of the spatial frequency theory. Finally, by presenting and analyzing cases, we explore the aesthetic consciousness of formativeness expressed in space with form and material properties. The emotion activated when looking at the baby's face was also shown in the baby schema design elements. It is important that the correct representation and effect of cuteness can be achieved only when the baby schema's modeling is in harmony. Starting with this study, it is expected that various studies of cute spaces will be conducted through quantitative experiments on the formative characteristics of baby schema.
