Abstract
This study aims to explore the practical effects and potential of applying installation art to revitalize community public spaces. As urbanization accelerates and social ties among residents weaken, community public spaces are facing challenges of underuse and diminished functionality. Installation art, as an interactive and immersive art form, offers not only aesthetic appeal but also enhances emotional communication, social interaction, and psychological well-being. Through literature review, analysis of successful domestic and international cases, and empirical research (based on 320 participants including surveys and structured interviews), this study confirms that installation art significantly increases the attractiveness and usage frequency of community public spaces. Using a 6-point Likert scale for psychological and behavioral assessment and statistical tools such as SPSS for frequency and t-test analysis, results indicate improvements in psychological relaxation, social interaction, and self-expression among participants. The study proposes an implementation roadmap composed of five phases: survey, planning, design, execution, and feedback. Furthermore, by applying Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory, it examines the cultural differences in participatory behavior between China and Western countries. This research concludes that integrating installation art into community spatial renewal is not only a viable approach to cultural regeneration and urban micro-renewal but also a practical model for collaborative governance in urban communities. It provides both theoretical insights and operational frameworks for sustainable community development and public art practice.
