Abstract
This study investigates how users’ spatial perception and emotional responses differ in theme restaurants according to spatial type, interior style, and family structure. The aim is to provide empirical evidence for developing more segmented spatial design strategies. Based on prior studies and online platform data, theme restaurants were categorized into three types—cultural/historical, natural environment, and movie/game—and 15 representative samples were selected through stratified sampling using visual tags and popularity metrics. In addition, interior design styles were classified into seven categories—vintage, modern, minimalist, fashion, industrial, sci-fi, and fusion—serving as auxiliary variables in perception analysis. A two-phase survey was conducted among 400 users aged 25–40. In the first phase, 13 emotional evaluation items were used to perform exploratory factor analysis (EFA), resulting in four factors: Emotional Experience, Spatial Perception, Environmental Atmosphere, and Aesthetic & Symbolism. In the second phase, mean scores of each factor were calculated and one-way ANOVA was conducted to examine perceptual differences among couples/child-free households, families with children, and single users. The results indicated that some samples showed statistically significant differences depending on user type and spatial style. This study empirically reveals the interaction between spatial types, design styles, and user demographics, and contributes to the development of emotion-oriented evaluation models for theme-based interior design.
