Abstract
The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the effects of key characteristics of immersive media art exhibitions on visitors’ intention to visit and to explore the potential of immersive content as a tool for regional cultural branding. Immersive media art is an emotional form of content that fuses digital technology and art, stimulating visitors’ senses and encouraging emotional immersion and active participation. This exhibition format has recently gained attention as a means of enhancing exhibition experiences and strengthening regional cultural appeal. This study examined representative cases, including teamLab Borderless, Arte Museum, and Le Space, to identify the components of exhibition characteristics, which were then tested through multiple regression analysis using data collected via a structured survey of 200 visitors aged 20 and above. The main variables analyzed were immersion, interactivity, and aesthetic quality, along with their influence on the intention to visit. The results showed that all three characteristics had a significant positive relationship with the intention to visit, with immersion having the strongest influence, followed by aesthetic quality and interactivity. Immersion was associated with the experience of being absorbed through spatial design and audiovisual technology, aesthetic quality with the harmony of multiple sensory elements contributing to post-visit impressions and recommendations, and interactivity with fostering positive experiences through visitor engagement. These findings suggest that immersive media art can contribute to shaping visitors’ intention to visit and hold academic significance. In particular, this study empirically identifies the core characteristics of immersive media art exhibitions and their relative influence on the intention to visit, providing foundational data for future exhibition planning and cultural content strategy development.
