본 연구는 인도네시아 교회 안에 여전히 남아있는 민속신앙의영향력을, 두꾼의 저주에 사로잡힌 한 목회자의 사례를 통해 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 민속종교적 두려움은 단순한 심리 현상이 아니라 애니미즘적 세계관과 복층식 기독교 구조 속에서 형성된 신앙적현실임이 드러났다. 이는 신자들이 복음을 고백하면서도 동시에 주술적 힘에 얽매이는 혼합적 신앙의 실체를 보여준다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해, 본 연구는 세 가지를 제안하였다. 첫째, 개인적 차원에서 신자들이 두려움의 실체를 직시하고 그리스도의 승리를 신앙적으로 경험할 수 있도록 영적 상담과 교육, 돌봄이 필요하다. 둘째, 공동체적 차원에서 교회는 전통 의례를 복음적으로 재해석한 새로운 신앙 행위를 마련해야 한다. 셋째, 신학적 차원에서 교회는 두려움을 세계관적·영적 권세의 문제로 이해하고, 하나님 나라 신학 안에서 해방의 복음을 선포해야 한다. 본 연구는 단일 사례에 기초하였다는 한계에도 불구하고, 인도네시아 교회 안에서 민속신앙이 불러일으키는 두려움의 문제를 드러내고 그 극복을 위한 신학적·실천적 방향을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 향후 연구는 다양한 사례와 비교 연구를 통해 보다 포괄적이고 구체적인 목회적 대안을 모색할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study analyzed the influence of folk religion within the Indonesian church through the case of a pastor who lived un der the fear of a dukun’s curse. The findings reveal that such fear is not merely a psychological issue but a religious reality shaped by an animistic worldview and a split-level Christianity structure. This demonstrates how believers, while confessing the gospel, remain bound to the power of traditional magic, resulting in a syncretistic faith. To address this challenge, the study proposes three directions. First, at the individual level, pastoral care through spiritual counseling, biblical education, and guidance is needed so that believers may face the reality of fear and experience the victory of Christ in their faith. Second, at the communal level, churches should develop new Christian practices by reinterpreting traditional rituals in light of the gospel, enabling believers to worship without reliance on folk practices. Third, at the theological level, churches must recognize fear as an issue of worldview and spiritual powers, proclaiming the liberating gospel within the framework of the kingdom of God. Although limited to a single case, this study contributes by exposing the ongoing influence of folk religion within the Indonesian church and suggesting theological and practical directions for overcoming the fear it generates. Future research should broaden the scope through comparative studies, thereby developing more comprehensive and concrete pastoral strategies.
