귀신들림 현상에 관한 치유상담적 고찰: -정신의학과 분석심리학적 관점-

The phenomenon of demonic possession as though experienced supernaturally may be found throughout the world. Is the phenomenon of demonic possession solely spiritual or psychological? This simple, yet complicated question is taken seriously in this paper because it may bring meaningful insights in terms of mental and spiritual aspects. The author suggests in particular that modern psychiatry and analytical psychology can help understand the phenomenon of demonic possession mentally, psychologically, and spiritually. For its phenomenon, the author claims, is still effective in the lives of people nowadays even though there seems to be a significant decline in the belief that one can be demon possessed. Thus the existence of demon spirits may be considered real from psychological and phenomenological perspectives. The most crucial question, then, is “How does one interpret the reality of this phenomenon of demon possession?”Psychoanalytical aspects of the phenomenon from the era of Freud until now have been studied in various methods and approaches. The author in this paper explores the perspectives of psychiatry and psychodynamic theories, particularly Jungian analytical psychology, on the phenomenon of demon possession for the purpose of its applications in pastoral counseling. The author then looks at the clinical features of dissociative trance states disorder and dissociative trance disorder in depth. The author in conclusion discusses how these psychiatric and analytical psychological approaches to the phenomenon of demon possession can be employed in the context of pastoral counseling and their limitations as well.
