정지용 시의 리듬 연구 — 음가의 반복을 중심으로

본고는 한국 현대시의 발전에 있어 중요한 전기를 마련한 시인인 정지용 시의 리듬에 대한 탐색이다. 정지용 시의 리듬은 크게 음가(音價)적 반복과 비음가적 반복으로 나뉜다. 이중 본고는 전자를 음운․단어․어절․문장의 층위로 나누어 분석한다. 첫째, 동일 문장과 유사 문장의 반복에 의한 구조적 리듬은 지용 시의 리듬의 한 양상을 이룬다. 구문론적 반복의 양상은 대체로 동일한 문장보다는 유사 문장이 반복되는 경우가 주를 이룬다. 이는 그가 동일성 내부에서도 차이와 변화에 대해 의식하고 있음을 예증한다. 둘째, 그의 시에서 구절 층위의 반복은 자주 나타나는 현상이다. 그러나 그 양상은 규칙적이고 정형적인 형태를 띠지 않고, 불규칙적이고 비정형적 양상이 주를 이룬다. 구절 단위의 반복은 대부분 부분적으로 실현되기 때문에, 반복의 실제적 양상과 효과는 매우 다양하고 산발적인 특징을 지닌다. 셋째, 단어 층위의 반복은 정지용 시의 리듬을 이해하는 중심지점이다. 그 양상은 음성 상징어의 반복과 일반 어휘의 반복으로 구분되는데, 대체로 2회 반복이 주를 이룬다. 그는 동일 어휘를 인접하여 반복하되, 양자 사이를 분리하여 표기함으로써, 매우 독특한 음성적 도상적 효과를 산출하고 있는 것이다. 넷째, 특정 음운의 반복은 시의 의미와 긴밀히 호응한다. 이것은 지용의 시가 음운론적․의미론적으로 단일하게 통합되어 있음을 예시한다. 이것은 단일 음운의 반복에만 국한된 현상이 아니라, 자음과 자음, 자음과 모음의 교차에서도 동일하게 나타나는 현상이다. 이는 지용이 소리의 중층적 효과에 대해 분명하게 인식하고 있었음을 암시한다. 이러한 분석을 통해 우리는 그가 언어가 갖는 음성적 효과와 미적 가치에 대해 매우 세심한 주의를 기울인 시인임을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
This article is a study on the rhythm of Jeong Ji-yong’s poetry, who marked a turning point in Korean modern poems. The rhythm of his poetry is divided into two parts, a repetition of phonetic value and a repetition of non-phonetic value. This article will analyze the former into four layers, namely sentences, phrases, words and phoneme. Firstly, the structural rhythm is one aspect of his rhythm. It is produced by a repetition of same and similar sentences. This shows that he was conscious of differences and changes in oneness. Secondly, the repetition of phrase is a frequent phenomenon in his poems. But the aspect is not formular and regular, but informal and irregular. And the effect is very various and sporadic, because the repetition of phrase is realized in part. Thirdly, the repetition of word is a central part in a repetition of phonetic value. The aspect is divided two parts, sound symbolic words and general words, which generally repeat two times. This makes a powerful effect on the sounds and images of his poetry. Fourthly, the repetition of phoneme is connected with a emphasis of meaning. This shows that his poetry is a united entity of sound and meaning. Further this repetition occurs not only one phoneme but also mane phonemes. This means that he was conscious of several effects of pronunciation. Finally, this analysis will reveal he was the best poets of his time, for he carefully considered the sonic effects and values of Korean.
