루비(ルビ), ‘言’과 ‘語’의 경계-정지용의 이중어 인식과 근대시 창작

Abstract

This article examines the usage patterns of ‘Ruby’ used in the process of creating modern poetry by Jeong Ji-yong, and reveals that Ruby is closely related to the use of Korean sensuous words in the process of transition from the creation of bilingual poetry to the creation of Korean poetry. In this paper, the use of Ruby as found in the creation of Jeong Ji-yong’s bilingual poems was reviewed by classifying them into cultural, sensual, and foreign languages. Through a number of variations on the original work of Ruby, Jeong Ji-yong explored the way of using poetic diction that can be translated and proceeded to the creation of Korean poetry, instead of the “Painful translation” method which insists on the exclusion of modern Chinese characters. Jeong Ji-yong tested the cross-use of literary language and colloquial language through the use of Chinese characters and Ruby in Japanese poetry and selectively used it in Korean poetry. This indicates that Ruby functions as an intermediator of neologism and a transit point of translation.
