초록
This study investigated the efficacy of aminoglycoside antibiotics as therapeutic candidates for man- aging Edwardsiella piscicida infections in aquaculture. A total of 42 E. piscicida isolates were tested against two approved antibiotics (amoxicillin and florfenicol) and four aminoglycosides (streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, spectinomycin, and kanamycin). Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined using the broth microdilution method, following CLSI guidelines. MIC distributions were analyzed to establish epidemiological cut-off values (ECVs) using normalized resistance interpretation (NRI). The calculated ECVs for amoxicillin, florfenicol, streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, spectino- mycin, and kanamycin were ≤ 64, 2, 8, 8, 64, and 4 μg/ml, respectively. The efficacy of three amino- glycosides (streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, and kanamycin) was further evaluated in vivo using E. piscicida strain KE1. Single intramuscular injections of streptomycin (40, 80 mg/ml), dihydros- treptomycin (20, 40 mg/ml), and kanamycin (10, 20 mg/ml) demonstrated high therapeutic effective- ness, with relative survival rates exceeding 93% across all tested doses. These findings highlight the potential of aminoglycoside antibiotics as effective therapeutic agents for controlling E. piscicida infections in aquaculture, offering a promising approach to disease management while minimizing the risk of antibiotic resistance.
