1990년대 페미니즘의 사상적 전환 : 다양성, 교차성, 그리고 문화적 성찰을 중심으로

Abstract

This paper examines the research trends of feminist philosophy in Korea in the 1990s, focusing on preparatory reading meetings before the founding of the Korean Association of Feminist Philosophers and academic activities fafter its founding until the end of the 1990s. To this end, I categorized the direction of feminist philosophy, as indicated in the founding statement of the Korean Association of Feminist Philosophers in 1997, into differences & diversity, intersectionality, and cultural reflection, and discussed how the studies conducted centered on the Korean Association of Feminist Philosophers in the 1990s dealt with these topics. In seeking a feminist philosophy that reflects the uniqueness of Korean society while engaging with Western feminist ideas, Korean feminist philosophers explored approaches from postmodernism, Marxism, and radical feminism, while also drawing on the traditions of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Additionally, in the 1990s, critical analyses of women’s images and gendered expressions were conducted in various fields such as culture, art, and media. Activities focused on producing and critiquing works centered on women’s voices and experiences became more active, along with increased exploration of women’s bodies, gender, and identity. In this paper I aimed to include feminist ideas from the 1990s that encompassed a broader range of voices and experiences than before, discussing the intersectional effects of factors such as race and class on the discrimination and oppression experienced by women in the context of globalization. It was also discussed within the framework of Korean feminist philosophy how these feminist ideas provided alternatives to male-centered cultural expressions and positively reexamined women’s identity and experiences.
