‘새마을소설’에 나타난 근대화 담론의 자기 모순성

Abstract

After having analyzed the ‘new village novels’ in the NEW VILLAGE that was a important media for mass propaganda and education towards New Village Movement in the 1970’s, we can get two conclusions. First, behind the ideology of New Village Movement that was directing the new village novels, there was the ideology of anti-city except the ideology of anti-communism or anti-North Korea. And this is a self-contradiction because the subject of New Village Movement had also been that of rapid modernization-industrialization- urbanization since 1960’s. And the method that attempts to get the political influence on the mass through the ‘negative’ logic is typically fascistic. Second, very ironically, we can affirm through the several non-typical new village novels that the logic of ‘negation(or disillusion) of city-the hope of farm village’ in the general new village novels is very unreal and the logic inevitably destroys the irony as the inner form of novel. After scrutiny of the new village novels we come to establish two new study themes. First, we need to make a examination of what kind of novels each writer wrote during the same period who contributed his novel(s) to NEW VILLAGE. Second, we need to study the new village novels comparing with the ‘production novels’ in the period of the latest Japanese Imperialism. If we can find the common logic in the new village novels and ‘production novels’, it will become a important clue that helps to explain the continuous essential of the ideology of New Village Movement.
