이 글은 새마을演劇戱曲選集을 대상으로 1970년대 새마을희곡(연극)이 국가이데올로기를 어떻게 반영하고 있는지 고찰하였다. 이 작품집은 ‘民族演劇’의 건설 또는 演劇大衆化와 民衆의 文化的 享受權을 위한 ‘自立劇’(素人劇)으로서의 가치를 내세웠다. ‘새마을戱曲’은 ‘우리나라 현실과 분수에 맞는’ 창작극으로 합리화된 정치적 목적극이다. 주로 農村새마을운동을 소재로 하였으며, 새마을정신에 입각한 희생적인 삶을 부각시켰다. 농촌은 도시와 對比되어 인간다운 삶을 보장하는 再活의 空間으로 설정되었으며, 개인의 희생을 강요하는 비현실적인 새마을정신을 강조하였다. 즉 새마을戱曲은 국민의 감정을 동원함으로써 새마을運動에 대한 이성적인 동의와 수용을 이끌어내는데 크게 기여하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이는 조국근대화의 이름으로 개성과 역사와 전통이 삭제되고 새마을운동의 이름과 정신으로 劃一化되었던 時代를 고스란히 담아내는 역설을 드러낸다.
Abstract
■ ABSTRACT The Nationalism Presented Saemaeul Play in 1970s Jeong, Ho-soon This thesis studied how Saemaeul (new village) play in 1970s reflected a national ideology by dealing with ‘Saemaeul Play Selection’. This selection enhanced the value of ‘Independent Play' for the construction of a ‘National Play' or play popularization and the popular cultural right to enjoy. ‘Saemaeul Play' is the political purpose play rationalized as a creational play ‘within the reality and status of our country'. It mainly dealt with Saemaeul Movement as an object and elevated the sacrificial life based on Saemaeul Mind. It made a farm village as a space of revival securing a life worthy of man compared to a city and empahasized an unreal Saemaeul Mind to enforce the sacrifice of individual. Saemaeul Play namely contributed to draw the rational agreement and reception about Saemaeul Movement by mobilizing the national emotion. This showed the paradox representing the age, standardized in the name and mind of Saemaeul Movement and removed the individuality, history and tradition in the name of fatherland's modernization.
