『백학선전』의 일역본 『여장군』의 번역 양상과 의의

Abstract

Usuda Zanun’s Yeojanggun(Baekhakjeon) is the Japanese version of Baekhakseonjeon, one ofthe classical novels in Korea. This article has discovered that although Yeojanggun showssome similarities with Baekhakseonjeon in terms of its contents, it is not the translated versionof it but that of Jiknyeo and Gyeonwoo, which is Allen’s English translation. Usuda Zanun’s translation shows the aspects of focusing on events centering aroundthe hero and heroine. A bove all, a s we can s ee from t he f act that i t was titled a s‘Yeojanggun’, it is focused on the story of the heroine. Thus, the story also ends with theevent that heroine Cho Eunha saves hero Yu Baekro. Foreign language versions such asUsuda’s Japanese version have significance as we can see from them such things as howKorean classical novels have been changed in the process of being translated into foreignlanguage and also for what it has been changed. Yeojanggun has the value of a differentversion as a foreign language version of Baekhakseonjeon, one of the Korean classical novelswritten in the early modern era, and we can also find its meaning from the fact that it hasvalue as material that can extend the prospect of research on Korean classical novels’ foreignlanguage versions.
