‘프롤레타리아 문인/문학’의 움직이는 힘과 대중화

프로문학운동의 운동성을 논의하기 위해, 이 글은 프로문학을 통해 그 문학의 주체성과 객체성, 작가와 독자의 관계가 함께 성립하는 논리적 순환에 주목한다. 카프의 ‘프로문인’은 ‘우리는 어떤 주체인가’라는 ‘프로문인’의 프로문인됨의 고민과, ‘우리는 어떻게 판단해야 하는가’라는 미학적 판단의 문제를 결부하여 공동의 논제를 형성하고 있었다. 이들에게 이론투쟁은 ‘우리’의 이상이 무엇인지 더욱 철저히 구명하며 동시에 ‘우리’의 의식을 그것과 일치시켜 나가는 실천을 의미했다. 또한 ‘프로문인’들은 자신들이 프롤레타리아 운동의 지식을 수용했을지언정, 감성을 프롤레타리아적인 것으로 변혁한 ‘진보적’ 취미의 주체는 아직 아니라는 점을 문제화했다. 그럼으로써 이들의 미학적 판단은 프롤레타리아로 충분히 고양되지 않은 대중뿐 아니라, 대중을 프롤레타리아로 주체화할 능력을 지닌 주체에 미달한 자신을 확인하는 형식이 되었다. ‘현재의 프로문학을 대중에게’인지, 아니면 ‘현재의 대중적인 것을 프로문학으로’인지를 분별함으로써 프롤레타리아 문학 대중화에 접근하는 관점은 프롤레타리아 ‘문인’, ‘문학’, ‘대중’ 중 적어도 하나의 항을 주어진 것으로 고정한다. 반면 카프의 ‘프로문인’이 추구한 대중화는 문인, 문학, 대중이 함께 감동하고 운동하는 연쇄를 이루어 기성 주체성을 변혁하는 ‘우리 프롤레타리아’ 되기였다. ‘프롤레타리아 문학’이 프롤레타리아가 자신의 것으로 여기는 프롤레타리아 문학이 아니라는 문제상황을 ‘프로문인’들은 ‘우리’의 명목과 실질의 불합치라는 주체의 문제로 이해했다. 그리고 이를 ‘우리’의 의식과 무의식적 감성을 모두 반성함으로써 극복하려는 자기 소외와 자기 투쟁이 카프의 실천을 관통하여 프로문학운동을 움직인 힘이었다.
Abstract
To discuss the motility of the proletarian literary movement, this article focuses on the logical circularity that proletarian literature constitutes the subjectivity and the objectivity, the writer and the reader at once. For ‘proletarian writers’ the theoretical struggle meant a praxis which is revealing the ideal of ‘us’ more thoroughly and making ‘our’ consciousness into accordance with it. And they problematized that they might have embraced the knowledge of proletarian movement but were not yet the subjects of ‘progressive’ taste. Hence, their aesthetic judment was a form of identifying not only the people not uplifted enough as the proletarian subject but themselves as falling short of the subject capable of subjetifying the people as the proletarian subject. Investigating popularization of proletarian literature attempting to discern whether ‘bringing the existing proletarian literature to people’ or ‘bringing the existing popular to proletarian literature’ fixes at least one constituent of proletarian ‘writer’, ‘literature’, or ‘people’. Whereas the popularization that KAPF ‘proletarian writers’ sought was becoming ‘us proletariat’ as a chain of writer, literature and people moving together, revolutionizing their existing subjectivities. The problematic situation that the ‘proletarian literature’ was not proletarian literature that proletariat consider as their own was for the ‘proletarian writers’ a problem of the agent which is ‘our’ substantiality being discrepant from the name. The moving force of the proletarian literary movement throughout the practice of KAPF was from the self-alienation and the struggle of self- overcoming with reflecting on both consciousness and unconscious sensibility of their own.
