Abstract
The Purpose of this study is critically examines the violence of K League supporters through the lens of normative ethics and proposes institutional countermeasures. While supporter chants and actions are often seen as expressions of group identity and loyalty, they can deteriorate into violence that undermines human dignity and social harmony. A comprehensive review of news reports and academic papers from 2010 to 2024 categorized supporter violence into object throwing, intrusion and disturbance, and bus blockades, analyzed through deontological, utilitarian, and virtue ethics frameworks. The findings show that although some supporters justified violent behavior as loyalty or justice, such acts are ethically indefensible. From a deontological view, they violate moral duties; from a utilitarian view, they cause more harm than benefit; and from a virtue ethics view, they reveal moral and communal deficiencies. The study also identifies a lack of consistent ethical leadership and accountability mechanisms within the K League system. By applying normative ethical theories to supporter culture, this research clarifies the moral dimensions of sports fandom, broadens ethical discourse in sports, and emphasizes shared moral responsibilities among individuals and organizations. It calls on K League clubs and the Korea Professional Football League to implement systematic ethical education and value-based policies for supporters. This study provides foundational data for institutional responses to reduce supporter violence and foster an ethical sports fandom culture.
