Abstract

The IUP blade industry in North Asia, Central Asia, and Mongolia evolved on its own and became established during the EUP, and also spread to Siberia, Inner Mongolia, and East Asia. In the Japanese archipelago, it is largely divided into the BT-1(wedge type core group) and the BT-2(prismatic type core group), which include various small bladecore technological system. The BT-1 group is distributed in the Kanto region and the Tohoku-Hokkaido region, and the BT-2 group is distributed in the Kanto region, the Tohoku-Hokkaido region, and the Western Japan region. The reduction stratagy utilized the hinging technique based on perpendicular flaking to produce straight blades. On the other hand, large blades are also found together in the technological systems of small bladecore group, such as the truncated-faceted pieces, narrow-faced core, and burin type core of the Kousakayama site, or small prismatic and conical type cores coexist with large blades at the Mukaida A site and the Onbara I site. However, among these small bladecores, there are no cores that can evolve into microblade core like the Karakol variant. Discoid core system based on Levallois technology are confirmed in the Kosakayama site, Suyanggae Loc. VI 3rd, 4th cultural layers, and Kara-Bom type EUP site Kara-Tenesh. It is presumed that this aspect appeared in the process of the Kara-Bom variant blade technological system spreading and settling in East Asia as well as Siberia during the EUP. The blade industry of the Kara-Bom and Karakol variant, which originated in the Altai region, spread to various regions of Asia region such as Mongolia, Central Asia, Siberia, and Inner Mongolia in China. Paleolithic sites comparable to these ones have also been confirmed in East Asia such as the Korean Peninsula and the Japanese archipelago. The blade industry of the Japanese archipelago is considered to be a regional form of the Kara-Bom variant, which was established during the advenced type of the Kara-Bom variant blade technological system of North Asia, Central Asia, Mongolia, and Inner Mongolia with Korean Peninsula(3rd cultural layer of Suyanggae loc.Vl) to East Asia around 37∼ 30ka B.P. This is also closely related to the migration of anatomically modern human.
