Abstract
Russia and Central Asia have maintained close economic ties in terms of trade and investment, but several recent variables are seen as factors that could negatively affect the existing strong relationship. First is the question with Kazakhstan. Russia and Kazakhstan likely to have policy conflicts in terms of fostering manufacturing industries, and the influx of Russian goods into Kazakhstan is already prominent within the Eurasia Economic Union. Kazakhstan has not seen the positive effects of its entry into EAEU which also holds room for dispute amid the industrialization and export promotion processes of both countries. Second, China has already overcome Russia’s economic influence in Central Asia, with investments and economic cooperation expanding through infrastructure development after completing certain sectors of investment in energy resources. While Russia's investment and trade in Central Asia remains at a certain level, it needs to expand trade with Central Asia by opening its markets more aggressively.
