한국 대학의 다문화적 환경은 급격한 변화 속에서 새로운 교육적 도전을 맞이하고 있다. 외국인 유학생의 지속적인 증가와 함께, 유학생들이 보다 원활하게 학업과 생활에 적응할 수 있도록 지원하는 체계적이고 전문적인 교육 모델이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 유학생 전용 학부의 개념과 역할을 분석하고, 다문화 공존과 학습환경에 미치는 영향을 고찰하는 데 초점을 맞춘다. 특히, 유학생 전용 학부와 같은 모델이 유학생의 학문적 성취, 사회적 통합, 그리고 다문화 감수성 증진에 어떤 기여를 할 수 있는지 탐색한다. 또한, 미국, 호주, 일본 등 해외 대학의 유학생교육 사례를 비교 분석하여 한국 대학에 적용 가능한 시사점을 도출한다. 이를 통해, 유학생 전용 학부가 한국 대학의 다문화 교육을 강화하고 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖춘 고등교육 환경을 조성하는 방안을 제안하고자 한다.
Abstract
Korean universities are adapting to globalization by expanding support for international students. While these students enrich campus diversity, they face challenges in language, academics, and social integration. This study explores how international student divisions can enhance multicultural education through tailored curricula, bilingual support, and cultural exchange programs. By analyzing cases from the U.S., Australia, and Japan, it suggests strategies for Korea, including flexible academic pathways and expanded student services. Strengthening international student divisions can boost Korea’s global competitiveness and foster an inclusive academic environment.
