외국인 학부 유학생의 대학 생활 적응을 위한 교양과목의 설계와 운영 방안 연구

현재 한국의 대학 공동체는 외국인 학부 유학생이 대학 생활에 성공적으로 적응하게 하기 위해서 여러 노력을 기울이고 있다. 이러한 노력의 하나로 연구자가 속한 대학에서는 유학생이 대학 생활에 더욱 적극적으로 참여하고 대학 문화에 적응하게 하기 위한 목적으로 교양과목을 신설하여 운영하고 있다. 해당 과목을 수강한 학습자의 과제 수행 과정과 결과를 분석하여 교과목 운영의 교육적 의의를 밝히고 제언을 하였다. 첫째, 대학 생활 적응을 위한 프로그램을 비교과보다는 교과목으로 운영하는 것이 효과적이라는 것이다. 둘째, 대학에서 학생들을 위해 지원하는 시설과 프로그램을 유학생들이 더 적극적으로 활용하게 하기 위해서는 유학생 스스로 필요한 정보를 찾고 공유할 수 있게 하는 활동을 구성하여야 한다는 것이다. 셋째 외국인 유학생이 한국 문화를 경험하는 것만을 강조하기보다 자신의 문화를 다른 문화 사람들에게 알릴 수 있는 기회를 제공할 필요가 있다는 것이다. 마지막으로 유학생들이 한국의 대학 문화를 보다 비판적으로 성찰할 수 있게 해야 한다는 것이다.
Abstract
In recent years, the Korean university community is making various efforts to ensure that international students are successfully integrated into university life. As part of these efforts, the university to which the researcher belongs has established a liberal arts course with the aim of encouraging international students to participate more actively in university life and adapt to the university culture. By analyzing the process and results of the learners who took the course, the educational significance of the course operation was clarified and suggestions were made. First, it is more effective to run a program for adjusting to university life as a subject rather than a extracurricular programs. Second, in order for international students to make more active use of the facilities and programs that universities support for students, it is necessary to organize activities that allow international students to find and share the information they need. Third, it is necessary to provide opportunities for international students to share their culture with people from other cultures, rather than emphasizing only the need to experience Korean culture. Lastly, international students should be provided the program to reflect more critically on Korean university culture.
