정보구조에서 주어의 처리: 한서 번역 텍스트를 바탕으로

본 연구는 스페인어의 주어가 한국어 번역 텍스트에서 어떻게 표현되는가를 주어 생략 현상에 초점을 맞추어 살펴본다. 두 언어 모두 주어를 생략할 수 있는 pro-drop언어에 속한다는 통사적 유사점을 가지고 있다. 하지만 주어의 생략이 의무적인 것이기보다 정보구조적 관점에서 특정한 패턴을 따른다고 가정하고 서한 번역 텍스트에서 주어가 어떻게 처리되는 살펴보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이에 Lambrecht(1994)의 정보구조적인 관점에서 Gabriel García Marquez의 Doce cuentos peregruinos 단편 중 El verano feliz de la señora Forbes와 그 번역본에 해당하는 송병선의 『꿈을 빌려드립니다』의 「포르베스 부인의 행복한 여름」을 분석하였다. 그 결과 두 언어 모두에서 지시체가 처음 등장할 때, 지시거리가 길어서 다시 한 번 언급해야 할 때, 그리고 대조의 기능을 할 때 주어를 명시적으로 써주었으며 지시거리가 짧아 계속해서 활성화되는 화제의 경우에는 생략된다는 공통점을 보였다. 반면에 TO(Texto original)와 TT(Texto traducido) 문장 간 주어 불일치는 대부분 스페인어에서 생략된 주어가 한국어 텍스트에서 대명사나 명사구로 명시된 경우가 대부분이었는데, 이는 에피소딕 모델로 설명하였다. 즉 한국어에서는 주어가 대조적 기능을 갖고 있을 때 뿐만 아니라 앞의 문장과 상반된 서술을 할 때 또는 에피소드가 전환 될 때 명시적으로 나타난다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
This study focuses on the subject omission phenomenon by looking at how Spanish subjects are expressed in Korean translated texts. Both languages have a syntactic similarity by belonging to a pro-drop language that can omit a subject. However, the purpose of this paper is to investigate how the subject is handled in Spanish-to-Korean translation text assuming that the omission of the subject is not obligatory, but follows a specific pattern from the information structure point of view. The short story El verano feliz de la señora Forbes of Gabriel García Marquez, and Song Byung-seon’s I’ll lend you my dream were analyzed from the perspective of Lambrecht’s(1994) information structure. As a result, in both languages, subjects were explicitly written in three cases: when the referent appears for the first time, when the distance between the same referent is long and needs to be mentioned again, and when it functions as a contrast. Whereas the subject was omitted when the topic is active due to the short referent distance. In contrast to above similarities in both languages, the subject show inconsistency between TO(Original text) and TT(Translated text) sentences when the episode was changed. To explain more, the subject was omitted in TO, while in TT the subject appeared explicitly as a pronoun or noun phrase. Thus the subject appears explicitly in Korean not only when it has contrasting function, but also when the statement is contradictory to the previous sentence or when the episode is switched.
