Abstract
· Research topics: This research re-conceptualizes the ‘heroic leadership’ theory by analyzing the relationship between heroes and leaders, and heroism and leadership, in the perspective of influence. · Research background: The leadership academia considers heroes a few exceptional people without depending on a specific definition and tends to exclude them. However, a hero in the modern times shifts its position to an ordinary person of extraordinary act. In this regard, the reconceptualization of the heroic leadership is required. · Differences from prior research: This study challenges the academic perspectives which perceive heroes as dictatorial ones. · Research method: The conventional leadership theories on heroes are deconstructed and re-interpreted developmentally, in the theoretical background of heroism science which was born as a new study field in the early 2000s. · Research results: Ordinary persons, who are not leaders in and out an organization at present, are confirmed to be the subjects of innovation as ‘leaders in waiting.’ · Contribution points and expected effects: The horizon of the heroic leadership theories will be expanded.
