Abstract
This study analyzed research trends on artificial intelligence(AI) for people with disabilities in Korea using LDA topic modeling and discussed future implications. A total of 1,130 articles were retrieved from RISS and KCI, and after removing duplicates and non-relevant studies, 143 papers were selected for the analysis. Based on the abstracts, morphological analysis and TF/TF-IDF weighting were conducted, and topic structures were derived through LDA modeling. The annual publication trend showed a sharp increase beginning in 2020, with notable quantitative and qualitative growth in 2024. According to the KCI academic classification, the largest proportion of studies belonged to social sciences (49.65%), followed by engineering (30.07%) and interdisciplinary studies (13.99%). TF-IDF analysis identified “special education teachers,” “AI digital textbooks,” and “sign language” as key terms. Topic modeling grouped the studies into six themes: (1) enhancing work ability among individuals with developmental disabilities, (2) sign-language education for the hearing impaired, (3) AI digital textbooks and teachers’ perceptions, (4) AI speaker applications for the visually impaired, (5) development of educational programs, and (6) generative AI–based instruction. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive overview of current research trends on AI for people with disabilities in Korea, identifies the main research areas, and highlights the need for more in-depth and wide-ranging investigations in future research.
