A Study on the Trends of AI Research in Special Education and Its Implications for Special Education Curriculum

본 연구는 특수교육 분야에서 인공지능 관련 연구물을 체계적으로 분석하여 주요 동향을 파악하고, 연구물에서 제시된 결론과 논의를 기반으로 인공지능이 특수교육 교과교육에 주는 시사점을 심도 있게 탐구하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 2017년부터 2025년까지 발표된 국내 학술지 논문 41편을 대상으로 동향 분석과 문헌 고찰을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 특수교육 분야의 인공지능 연구는 2020년 본격적으로 발표되기 시작하였으며, 2024년에 24편의 연구물이 발표되며 급격히 증가하는 양상을 보였다. 연구유형은 양적 연구가 질적 연구보다 높은 비중을 차지하였고, 특수교사의 인식과 경험에 관한 연구가 두드러졌다. 특수교육 교과교육에 인공지능의 도입은 교육의 개별화, 접근성 및 학습 참여 향상, 교육 평가 및 계획 지원 등 다양한 측면에서 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 선행연구를 토대로, 인공지능 교육이 특수교육 교과교육에 주는 시사점으로 개별 맞춤형 교수·학습 지원, 교과교육 접근성 향상, 교과교육의 계획 및 평가 방식 개선, 특수교사의 역할 변화 등을 제시하였다. 또한, 인공지능이 특수교육 교과교육의 질적 향상과 효과성 제고를 위한 도구로 활용될 가능성을 시사하며, 이를 위한 연수 및 정책적 지원, 향후 국제적 동향 비교와 장기적 효과 검증 연구의 필요성 등을 제언하였다.
Abstract
This study systematically analyzes research on artificial intelligence (AI) in special education to both identify major trends and explore its implications for the curriculum based on previous studies' conclusions and discussions. A review of 41 journal articles published in South Korea from 2017 to 2025 revealed that AI-related research in special education began actively in 2020, with a sharp increase to 24 studies in 2024. Quantitative research was more prevalent than qualitative research, with a strong focus on special education teachers' perceptions and experiences. AI integration in special education holds significant implications—including support for individualized learning, improved accessibility and engagement, and assistance with assessment and planning. This study highlights key implications such as personalized teaching support, enhanced curriculum accessibility, improvements in planning and assessment methods, and shifts in teachers' roles. Additionally, AI is suggested as a tool for enhancing the quality and effectiveness of special education; this emphasizes the need for professional training, policy support, international comparisons, and long-term effect validation.
