Abstract

The study observed the cover of pottery in Yeong-nam region of the Korean Peninsula(“Motoyama cover” in the text) in the Motoyama collection owned by the Kansai University Museum in Japan, and looked at what “Gyeong-ju” means in the inner ink writing. Until now, among the inner ink writing of Motoyama cover, Gyeong-ju was judged to mean the area where the relic was excavated, but in fact, the cover belonged to the Daegaya style centered on Go-ryeong area in Gyeongsangbuk-do in its overall shape and characteristics, and there was a gap between the inner ink writing and the earthenware style. Accordingly, the ‘Motoyama cover’ and the cover excavated from the actual ancient tombs in Gyeong-ju were compared, and as a result of the Principal component analysis, the ‘Motoyama cover’ and the cover excavated from the ancient tombs in Gyeong-ju were clearly distinguished, and the similarity was considered to be quite low. Since then, the “Motoyama cover” and the covers excavated from Daegaya Tombs have been reviewed, and the “Motoyama cover” has the highest similarity to the excavations of Hap-cheon Ok-jeon No. 85 and Okj-eon No. M4. Based on this, it was suggested that 'Motoyama cover' belonged to the Daegaya style, but it was not produced in the Go-ryeong area, but in the area of the Hap-cheon. In addition, it was estimated that the approximate year of the “Motoyama cover” would be similar, considering that the Ok-jeon M4, M6, and Go-ryeong Jisan-dong No. 45, which showed high similarity to the “Motoyama cover,” all fall from the end of the 5th century to the early of the 6th century. In the end, the meaning of the “Motoyama cover” inner ink writing can be summarized as the first, the possibility that it is a simple misspelling on a place name, the possibility that Gyeong-ju is an area where the cover was purchased, and the third, the possibility that it literally means simply “refer to the relics of the Gyeong-ju area where the button-type cover has been excavated.”
