프레카리아트 담론과 마르크스 계급론: 프롤레타리아트 개념과 계급 규정에 관하여

이 글은 자본주의 사회에서 새로운 계급이 형성되고 있다고 주장하는 프레카리아트 담론을 비판적으로 고찰한다. 프레카리아트는 마르크스의 프롤레타리아트 개념과의 대조를 통해 새로운 계급으로 규정되기 때문에 프레카리아트 담론에서 규정한 프롤레타리아트 개념을 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 담론의 주창자인 가이 스탠딩의 규정이 매우 피상적이라고 한다면, 국내 학자들의 규정은 지나치게 확장된 것이라고할 것이다. 이러한 고찰을 통해 프레카리아트 담론에서 새로운 계급을 구분하는 기준인 불안정성은 임노동이라는 자본주의 특유의 생산방식에 내재되어 있는 경향이자 자본주의 사회의 프롤레타리아트인 노동자계급이 마주한 현실이라는 점이 입증될 것이다. 불안정한 노동과 삶의 문제를 자본가-노동자보다는 유산자-무산자의 구도에서 규명하는 프레카리아트 담론은 그 문제에 대한 근본적인 해결책을 제시하는 데에 한계를 갖는다. 또한 이 글은 계급 규정과 관련하여 사회과학 전반에 퍼져있는 관념론적 기준이 프레카리아트 담론에도 내재해 있다는 사실을 밝힌다. 공동의 목표나 계급의식을 기준으로 계급을 규정하는 것은 계급의 문제를 새로운 호명이나 새로운 개념 창출로 해결하려는 관념론에 빠질 위험성이 매우 크다는 점을 지적한다.
Abstract
This article critically examines the discourse of the precariat, which claims that a new class is being formed in capitalist society. Since this contrasts with Marx’s concept of proletariat, it is necessary to examine how theorists of the precariat define the proletariat. The definition of Guy Standing, the proponent of this discourse, is very superficial, and the definition of domestic precariat theorists is overly extended. Through this consideration, it will be suggested that precariousness, which defines the existence of a new class in the discourse, is a tendency inherent in capitalism’s unique method of production called wage labour, and is a reality faced by the proletariat. The discourse of the precariat examines the problem of precarious work and life from the perspective of the relationship between the haves and the have-nots, rather than the relationship between capitalists and workers. This limits fundamental solutions to the problem. The idealistic criterion that appears in the social sciences regarding the definition of class is also inherent in the discourse of the precariat. Defining a class based on a common goal or class consciousness has a very high risk of falling into idealism that tries to solve class problems by creating a new concept.
