Abstract
(Background and Purpose) Against the backdrop of global cultural heritage protection and urban regeneration, historical and cultural districs not only contain rich cultural heritage but also face the challenge of balanced protection and development. In order to promote the long-term vitality of districs, it is necessary to establish a scientific evaluation system and clarify the key indicators of sustainable development. This study aims to quantify the importance of each impact indicator to establish an evaluation system suitable for the sustainable revitalization of historical and cultural districs and provide scientific grounds to support related development strategies. To this end, the AHP method is used, combined with expert surveys, to establish a multi-level indicator system, and the weights of indicators in each hierarchy are calculated to clarify the roles of various indicators in distric revitalization. (Method) In this study, we established an indicator system including four target indicators, guidelines, and plan indicators of environment, economy, society, and culture through previous research and expert questionnaire surveys. Then, we analyzed the expert survey data using the AHP method, calculated the relative weight of each level indicator, and performed consistency verification to ensure the scientificity and rationality of the results. (Results) According to the research results, cultural sustainability (45.5%) is the core indicator of the sustainable revitalization of historical and cultural districs, and cultural events, creative industries and cultural exchanges not only maintain the characteristics of distric culture, but also promote economic development and community cohesion. Social sustainability (26.2%) reflects how important resident participation, social inclusion and public safety are to street vitality. Economic sustainability (18.7%) mainly relies on cultural tourism industry, and environmental sustainability (9.5%) accounts for the lowest proportion, but the protection of historical buildings is still an important foundation for distric development. (Conclusions) This study established an indicator system for the sustainable revitalization of historical and cultural districs, and quantified the importance of various influence indicators using the AHP method. The research results show that the four dimensions of culture, society, economy and environment interact with each other, among which cultural sustainability is the core driving force of distric revitalization. In the future, in order to adapt to the development needs of various types of historical and cultural districs, the indicator system should be further optimized to strengthen the continuity of cultural heritage, promote community interaction and economic vitality, and realize the harmonious development and long-term prosperity of districs in modern urban environments.
