Abstract
This study aims to bring accurate diagnosis about fear of crime which impedes the quality of life. Specifically, whether the effect of crime-related media can be moderated by the sex significantly was examined and tried to suggest proper implications for each gender. 1) For this purpose, this study conducted hierarchical multiple regression analyses with the data drawn from 2010 Crime Victim Survey. As a result, both ‘Mean-world View’ hypothesis and the vulnerability hypothesis turned out to be significant statistically. There was a noticeable difference in power of media between gender. That is, the effect of cultivation has more impact on female than male. The results not only imply that provocative and stimulating media contents should be regulated but also show that media contents need to be approached with different perspective according to gender.
