미디어가 결혼이민여성의 범죄두려움에 미치는 영향: 문화배양효과와 취약성가설을 중심으로

초록

이 연구는 범죄에 대한 컨텐츠를 담고 있는 미디어 노출로 인해 범죄두려움이 배양될 수 있다는 문화배양효과를 경험적으로 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 또한 이처럼 미디어를 통해 경험한 범죄관련 사실들이 소득이라는 맥락 안에서 다르게 받아들여질 수 있다는 문화배양이론의 하위가설인 취약성가설 역시 추가적으로 검증한다. 이를 위해 전국 각 지방경찰청의 협조를 구하여 지방경찰청이 담당하는 결혼이민여성 1,326명을 대상으로 한 설문조사가 사용되었으며, 자료는 다중회귀분석 방법을 통해 분석되었다. 연구결과, 문화배양이론과 취약성가설을 모두 수용하는 결과를 나타냈다. 먼저 범죄 관련 미디어가 범죄두려움에 미치는 실질적인 영향력을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 이 같은 효과가 소득의 수준에 따라 강화될 수 있다는 취약성가설도 통계적으로 검증하였다. 이 결과는 장기적으로 자극적이고 폭력적인 문화 컨텐츠를 지양하고 동시에 사회 취약계층을 배려한 정보전달이 필수적임을 시사한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine whether exposure to crime-related contents in media affect fear of crime of marital migrant woman based on the cultivation theory. Furthermore, this study attempts to examine the vulnerability hypothesis which hypothesize that indirect experience from the media can be accepted differently by the potential capability to recover from the victimization. For this purpose, this study conducts the multiple regression analyses. The data was drawn from 1,326 marital migrant woman. As a result, cultivation theory and vulnerability hypothesis rejected the null hypothesis. In other words, influence of media according to the cultivation theory shows the robust impact on fear of crime even with all the other control variables in advanced studies. Moreover, it has been discovered that such an influence can be reduced by the high monthly income. Thus, these findings hence conduce to not only the need to regulate the violent and provocative contents in media but also to strengthen the care about information for vulnerable people.
