A New Approach to Laoz's Thought on Ecological Discourse

M. Bookchin severely criticizes post-modern ecological discourse, a new natural scientific ecological discourse and some ecological discourses based upon ancient Asian thoughts which were established during 1970s through '80s. I would problematize his critics' critical mind about ecological discourses relying upon ancient Asian thoughts. His criticism on the ecological discourse coming from ancient Asian thoughts is partly correct and partly wrong. If we want to overcome his correct or wrong criticism, we must abandon a tendency to interpret ancient Asian thoughts abstractly and provide them with concrete social analyses. In order to accomplish such a purpose, my study is focused on actual life-based interpretations regarding Laoz's thoughts in the chapter 5 and 6 of this article. Laoz did not insist even one single philosophical rhetoric. Rather, he was angry and lamented that hierarchical society deeply dragged down common people's life, and he was eager to establish 'common people's egalitarian society'(無不爲) so as to overcome the oppression of hierarchical society(無爲). I expect that this new study on Laoz's thought overcomes M. Bookchin's wrong criticism and contributes concretely to a new ecological discourse in order not to mislead the 'metaphor of a wise man'.
