Abstract
This article critically studies Taoist ecofeminism. Taoist ecofeminism sympathizes with Western ecofeminism, which seeks to break away from domination of the socially vulnerable, including women, and ecological destruction. Against the background of this sympathy, Taoist ecofeminism reorganizes Taoist thought into ecofeminism based on the eco-friendly elements inherent in Taoist thought. However, Taoist thought assumes a metaphysical entity symbolized by Tao. Therefore, it is difficult for people who do not accept this reality to accept Taoist ecofeminism. Furthermore, Taoist ecofeminism understands and uncritically accepts Western ecofeminism as a type of ecofeminism called cultural ecofeminism. Because of this, Taoist ecofeminism also follows the errors of cultural ecofeminism, which are represented by essentialism and reductionism. In order to overcome the limitations of Taoist ecofeminism, including Western ecofeminism, this article raises the need to reconstruct ecofeminism based on Marx’s theory.
