Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the confounding effect of perceptional variable and strategic variable in Neo-Gestalt experiments investigating how insight occurs. Authors in this study predicted that there would be no promotion of nine-dot problem solving rate, even if people perceives the dots outside of nine-dots. Rather, we predicted that the nine-dot problem solving rate would be affected by learning strategy to be applied to it. To test this prediction, we randomly assigned 63 adults to the 3 different experimental groups; exercising perceptual change, learning applicable strategy to the problem, and experience both of former two treatments. Results support our prediction that insight occurs only when people knows applicable knowledge or strategy.
