중학생의 쓰기 막힘 경험에 대한 설문 연구(1) - 쓰기 막힘의 기본 실태를 중심으로 -

이 설문 연구에서는 중학생 123명의 응답을 통해 쓰기 막힘의 기본 실태(경험 여부, 빈도, 강도)를 확인하고, 쓰기 막힘과 필자의 특성(쓰기 능력과 태도) 간 관계를 확인하였다. 연구 결과는 크게 세 가지이다. 첫째, 연구에 참여한 중학생에게 쓰기 막힘은 매우 보편적인 경험이었고, 학생들이 인식하고 있는 쓰기 막힘의 빈도와 강도도 높았다. 90% 이상의 학생들이 쓰기 막힘 문제의 해소를 희망하고 있으나, 대부분 이에 대한 교육적 지원은 받은 적이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 응답자의 쓰기 능력, 쓰기 태도, 쓰기 막힘의 ‘상하 수준’에 따라 대부분의 문항에서 응답의 차이가 나타났다. 또한 쓰기 막힘의 수준이 높은 필자는 쓰기 능력, 쓰기 효능감, 쓰기 태도도 모두 낮아 적극적인 지원이 필요한 상황이었다. 반면에 성별과 학년에 따라서는 쓰기 막힘의 수준을 비롯한 대부분의 문항에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 문항 간 상관 분석을 통해 문항의 영역과 세부 문항별로 일정한 양상을 확인하고 쓰기 막힘의 해석과 관련된 쟁점 사항을 확인하였다. 쓰기 막힘의 경험 여부, 경험 빈도, 경험 강도에 관한 문항 간에는 중상 수준의 뚜렷한 상관관계가 있었다. 그러나 쓰기 능력·태도와 쓰기 막힘 영역의 문항 간에는 일정한 상관이 나타나지 않아 개별 학생이 경험하는 쓰기 막힘의 수준과 타 변인들과의 관계가 선형적이지 않음을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
This survey study investigated various experiences and perceptions related to writing blocks by 123 middle school students’ reponses. Major findings of this study were followed: This study, first, found out that 82% of students had experienced writing block and over 40% reported the level and frequency of their writing block was high. Over 90% students hoped to overcome writing blocks; however, most of them had not received any educational support. Second, high/low groups in writing block showed different responses in most questions in the survey. Most high blockers usually had other writing difficulties, such as low writing ability, writing attitude, and self-confidency as writers, so need to professional support. Third, responses from four questions in the section of writing block had clear and attentive correlations each other; however, other 10 questions did not have any correlation. Some implications and issues were suggested to enhance the interpretations of students’ writing blocks and to promote further study.
