중학생들의 작문능력 실태 조사 연구

이 연구에서는 중학교 2학년 학생 189명을 대상으로 설명글, 설득글, 서사글을 수집하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론과 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 중학생들의 작문능력이 전반적으로 낮은 수준이며, 특히 하위 수준 학생의 비중이 크다. 둘째, 중학생들의 작문능력의 실태를 분석해 본 결과 성별, 지역/학교별 차이가 매우 심각한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 중학생들의 작문능력의 실태를 분석해 본 결과 설명글이나 서사글에 비해 설득글 쓰기 능력이 다른 장르에 비해 상대적으로 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 중학생들의 작문능력의 실태를 분석해 본 결과 학생들은 글쓰기의 하위 영역 중에서 내용 선정/조직 능력이 가장낮은 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 단어수, 문장수가 많을수록 글쓰기 점수가 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 특히 단어수와 글쓰기 점수의 상관이 높게 나타났다. 학생들의 작문 수준이 전반적으로 낮은 것은 학교에서의 작문교육이 체계적으로 이루어지 않은데 원인이 있는 것으로 판단된다. 작문교육을 활성화하기 위해서는 국가수준의 작문 평가를 실시하여 학생들의 작문능력과 관련된 정보를 학교 현장에 정기적으로 제공하는 것이 중요하다.
Abstract
This study quantitatively and qualitatively investigated expository, persuasive, andnarrative texts written by 189 middle school students. Major findings of this study werefollowed. First, the level of middle school students’ writing was very low; in addition, thepercentage of below-basic level was high. Second, results of this study showed moresevere gaps by gender, region, and schools, compared to the results in the Nationalassessment of academic achievement for Korean language arts. Third, middle schoolstudents demonstrated relatively lower performances in writing persuasive texts among 3genres. Forth, middle school students struggled the most in selecting/organizing contentsin various dimensions of writing. Fifth, the number of words or sentences are lot more,writing scores are higher. The results of this study showed that it is necessary for aNational assessment to precisely measure students' writing ability for better instructionalsupport.
