사전은, 표현된 언어에 대해 해석 이해를 하고자 할 때에 주로 이용되지만, 한편으로 언어의 표현에도 기여해야 할 것이다. 지금까지 나온 대표적인 국어 대사전 5종을 위주로 살펴본 결과, 이전의 사전들은 이러한 표현 부분에 대한 정보 제공에 비교적 소홀하였음을 알 수 있었다. 사전에서 용례는 언어 표현에 구체적인 정보를 직접적으로 제공하는 항목이다. 따라서 가능한 한 용례는 올림말의 다양한 용법을 모두 잘 보여줄 수 있도록 마련해야 한다. 풀이말을 다른 올림말로 대체하는 방언이나 순화 대상어, 피동사, 사동사, 높임말, 파생어 등도 그만의 독특한 용법이 있을 수 있으므로 용례가 필요하다. 용례는 풀이말과 서로 관련성을 가지면서 풀이 정보를 보완하는 성격을 가진다. 특히 풀이말이 추상적이고 포괄적이거나 메타 언어를 사용한 경우에서는 용례가 풀이말을 구체화하는 역할을 해야 한다. 또한, 용례에는 해당 올림말이 갖는 문화적인 요소와 일반적인 정서, 관습 등을 함유하는 내용을 내보이도록 노력해야 한다. 용례 가운데 인용례와 작성례 그리고 가공례는 사전의 성격에 따라 적절하게 조정된다. 가능한 한 인용례를 많이 사용하는 것이 좋지만, 사전에서 용례는 그 말이 사용된 전후 맥락이 생략된 채 나타나므로 이에 따르는 최적의 조건을 갖춘 용례 선정과 작성이 요구된다.
Abstract
Dictionary is used not only to understand the expressed language but also to service the expression of Language. As a result of examining mainly with the representative five large Korean Dictionaries, I found that this kind of expression side has been treated too lightly so far in the previous dictionaries. Examples in dictionary are the item directly providing concrete information to language expression. If at all possible, It is arranged that examples should show a varied usages of an headword. Especially examples are needed in this case that dialect that replace the explanation to other headword, a target word of purification, a passive verb, a causative verb, a honorific word, a derivative word and so on can have their unique usages. It is effective for examples and explanations to supplement each other with relation. In the explanation used abstract and inclusive language or metalanguage, examples should take on a role of concrete the interpretation. And, It is tried in the examples to include contents of various cultures, general emotions and customs etc. Citation, writing example, manufacturing example should be controled according to the character of dictionary. If at all possible, it is favorite way to use a lot of citations. However, examples in dictionary show up without the context so that it is needed to select and make out examples to be best forms.
