Abstract
Gender equality and discrimination, liberalism and authoritarianism, radicalism and conservatism, the new sensibility of eroticism and the vulgarity of porno. In this contradictory evaluation of the two laws, “Ma Kwang-Su’s statement in the 1990s” is torn apart. I believe that it is caused by the self-thinking contradiction in Ma Kwang-Su’s sexual discourse. Therefore, this paper focuses on this issue and attempts to analyze Ma Kwang-Su’s “tearing” by analyzing his sexual discourse. Ma Kwang-Su’s sexual discourse was greatly influenced by Freud. He drew on some of Sigmund Freud’s propositions, such as the types of happiness, the causes of pain, and the relationship between the principle of reality and the principle of happiness (repression hypothesis). However, Ma Kwang-Su believed that Freud’s theory was too conservative, so he began to further engage with the sexual discourse of Radical Freudians such as Wilhelm Reich and Herbert Marcuse. Ma Kwang-Su introduced their themes into his own sexual theory and established a unique sensual aesthetics. But in this process, the radical level of his sexual discourse ultimately surpassed that of radicalisms. Regarding sexuality, Ma Kwang-Su failed to mention two points. Namely, the intimate relationship formed by love and the sexuality distorted by the capital consumption system. It is interesting that these two points are precisely the limitations of radical Freudians pointed out by Anthony Giddens. Ma Kwang-Su does not talk about intimate relationships because of his narcissistic and body theoretical views. His desire for “abundance” has instead created a complicity between his sexual discourse and the internal logic of capitalism. Ma Kwang-Su’s infatuation with the broken body and the body entangled by the sign system clearly reflects this point. Ma Kwang-Su is different from his contemporary writers and new generation writers. He has but not fully processes the characteristics of the 1980s and 1990s. This is another “tearing” of Ma Kwang-Su. However, it also indicates that he can also be a “bridge” linking two eras and two generations. It is precisely because of the symbolism represented by Ma Kwang-Su that we need to continuously conduct further research on him.
