Abstract
Previous research that investigated the effect of art infusion in inserting art images into product design or package design tended to show only the positive effects of art infusion based on luxury perception. In other words, there was insufficient interest from previous research on the negative effects that may occur due to art infusion, and as a result, they provided limited implications to companies. In this study, we examined that art infusion can make consumers experience all the conflicting emotions related to consumption, pleasure of consumption and spending pain, and investigated the factors that influence the relationship between art infusion and consumption emotions. To this end, we focused on the roles of self-construal and nostalgia. The results showed that when an art image is infueed into the product design, consumers of independent self-construal experience the pleasure of consumption and have positive purchase intentions for the product, whereas consumers of interdependent self-construal experience spending pain and have negative purchase intentions. And the results of Study 2, which examines the role of nostalgia, showed that nostalgia plays a role in reducing the spending pain of consumers. In other words, nostalgia played a role in enhancing the effect of art infusion by lowering the spending pain caused by art infusion. Finally, we presented theoretical and practical implications.
