Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the psychological effects of forest therapy camp on university freshmen immediately after the program and one week later. The program was conducted for freshmen at C University in Cheongju City for two days and one night on September 23 and 24, 2023, at Wolak Mountain National Park with 13 people in the experimental group and 8 people in the control group continued their daily life without receiving any treatment while the program was running. To measure psychological effects, self-administered questionnaires were conducted on Self-Esteem Scale (SES), Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and Korean-version of Connectedness Nature Scale(K-CNS), and pre-, post-, and follow-up measurements. As a result, in the experimental group, pre, follow-up measurements of positive self-esteem (z=-2.04, p<.05) increased and pre-post measurements of negative affect (z=-2.04, p<.05) decreased, and in pre-measurements, follow-up measurements of natural connectedness (z=-2.66, p<.05), a significant difference was observed. This suggests that the forest therapy camp has an impact on the psychological effects of university freshmen, and the necessity of participating in the forest therapy camp to improve self-esteem and positive affect was confirmed.
