本稿は50年が過ぎた時点で4・3の意義が作品の中でどのように形象化されているのかを考察したものである。考察の内容をまとめると次のとおりである。第一に、4・3に関して50年という歳月が流れ、各界各層の努力で自由に発言できる雰囲気は形成されてきているが、各個人の内面の傷跡は永遠に消せないことを示している。第二に、50年が過ぎた時点でも4・3の加害者たちはいかなる処罰も受けず平穏な生活を送っている点を作品を通じて批判している。第三に、4・3は単純に加害者と被害者という二分法で分けることができる問題ではなく、民族全体の悲劇であったことを表出しようとしている。したがって、民族全体の悲劇といえる４・３の傷跡を癒すためには４・３の歴史についてより正確で綿密な再検討がこれから必要であることを『満月』を通じて作家は語っていると言える。
Abstract
This paper aimed to examine how the meaning of the Jeju April 3rd incident has been shaped in the work after 50 years. The meanings were identified as follows: First, over the 50 years, although people from all walks of life spoke freely on the incident, individual wounds to the psyche could not be permanently erased. Second, even after the passage of 50 years, there was widespread criticism that the perpetrators of the Jeju April 3rd incident had lived peaceful lives without receiving any punishment. Third, the incident was a tragedy for the entire nation, extending beyond the perpetrators and the victims. Therefore, in “The Full Moon”, the author Kim Seok-beom argues that the time has come for an accurate and detailed reexamination of the history of the Jeju April 3rd incident in order to heal the scars this tragedy inflicted on the entire nation.
