Abstract
This paper classifies compound particles that appear in Kyogen scripts, primarily those in the Kotenzensyubon, and uses this data to examine the characteristics and features of Japanese compound particles found in Kyogen materials. A total of 674 compound particles were extracted from the Kotenzensyubon. There were 388 particle-type and 286 auxiliary-type compound particles, with the proportion of particle-type compound particles being higher. Kyogen is composed of dialogue between characters, often depicting interesting performances by pointing out the other person's mistakes or errors. Therefore, the compound particle "monoka," which is used as a counter-question with a condemning nuance, is frequently used. All of the compound particles containing "mono" extracted from the Complete Collection of Classics are final particle-type compounds, characterized by their use in a contrarian sense, expressing regret and asserting a sentence. Compared to particle-type compounds, the auxiliary verb-type compounds extracted from the Complete Collection of Classics appear in a variety of forms. The most common are compounds expressing demands or requests, with a total of 140 examples collected.
