어문 규범에서 보이는 ‘외래어’와 ‘외국어’의 혼란과 대책
Confusion and countermeasures of ‘loanwords’ and ‘foreign words’ in the linguistic norms of Korean

The purpose of this study is to examine the confusion of 'loanwords' and 'foreign words' in the current <Koreanization of Non-Korean> and to find a solution to it. Specifically, I examine the distribution of loanwords and foreign words using case studies and statistical analysis methods for the example words of the Koreanization of Non-Korean, and reveal in detail the internal contradictions contained in this norm. To overcome the conceptual confusion of the two terms and further to use language in an easy and equal manner, I suggest that the current norm should be renamed <Hangul Notation for Foreign Words>. I also point out that the target of this norm is not foreign words listed in the Korean dictionary, but ‘temporary foreign words’ or ‘loanwords candidates for registration.’ For temporary foreign words that are limitedly used in the media or specialized fields, it was considered necessary to create and utilize a ≪Usage Dictionary of Foreign Words Notation in Korean≫ on the internet. It was emphasized that among new loanwords, words with high recognition, comprehension, and usage rates should be regularly reviewed and included in the Korean dictionary as “standard loanwords,” and that existing loanwords listed in dictionaries also need to be re-examined.
