Toward Chartism -The Background of Scotland Chartism in 1830s-The studies of the chartist movement in Scotland have long been out of print in British. But in Korea, we have no studies of the chartist in Scotland. This paper deals with the background of Scotland chartism in 1830s. I focused especially on the period of 1832-1838. I have two results as followings. Firstly, after the Reform Act of 1832, the workingmen class have excluded suffrage. They have expressed discontents against whig government. Clearly, throughout the early 1830s political debates within Scotland were very lively. The workingmen class, trade unions, and many Associations have became political power. Secondly, the workingmen class, trade unions, and many Associations have their journals and fight against government. In mid-1830s, there are great advancement of radicalism in Scotland. It is possible by mass meetings, petitions, activity of many radical journals, and cooperation of the middle class and workingmen class. So the chartism of 1830s in Scotland became the ground of the after chartism in Scotland.
