Abstract

This study analyzed the factors of the spread of social farming in Wanju, Jeonbuk, and the social economic network supporting it. Through this, we tried to confirm the process of social farming growing into a local community beyond the individual healing and recovery of the participants. As a result of the study, three meaningful changes were identified. First, the spread of social farming was based on network construction and service linkage, and social capital such as reciprocity and trust embedded in the region was supporting this. With the active support of a well-organized social and economic network, social farming was growing into a local community by creating new relationships in the community and increasing a sense of solidarity and belonging among residents. Second, the 'new relationship' embedded in the social economy network spread social farming and became a driving force for growing the local community. New relationships were taking place at three levels. The relationship between farmers and participants was being renewed. Farmers and participants also formed new relationships and grew further. Agriculture and welfare also formed new relationships. Third, as social farming spread, local service communities were created and insufficient life care was achieved in rural areas. Social farming in the case area had the characteristics of a welfare movement that responded to the needs of local residents and solved various problems in the community. The process of spreading social farming went beyond policies and projects and had the characteristics of a local movement to spread the social value of agriculture and restore the community. Despite these findings, there is a limit to saying that most social farming is rooted in the region and is growing into a local community. It is expected that more research will reveal the factors of the spread of social farming and the process of growth into the local community.
