초록
This study examines the role of the social economy in promoting regional development in rural areas and proposes a localized alternative model. Rural regions, due to limited social services and population decease, have been faced challenges that can not be addressed effectively through conventional, exogenous development strategies. In response, the social economy offers a promising, community-driven approach rooted in local resources. Survey results show that rural residents and those in primary industries have higher awareness and participation in the social economy, which indicates its potential effectiveness in these areas. A notable example is the Village Management Social Cooperative model in Okcheon-gun, where residents actively manage local facilities and services, contributing to sustainable development. The study provides empirical evidence of the social economy’s positive impact on regional development and highlights the Village Management Social Cooperative as a viable model for rural revitalization. Continued research is needed to assess its long-term impact and scalability.
