奇怪な再会は大正十年一月の｢大阪毎日新聞｣に連載された新聞小説である。本作品には作者芥川龍之介の戦争問題への鋭い批判が込められている。すなわち、日本は日清戦争で勝利を収め、大陸進出への橋頭堡を確保したが、その裏には戦争のために生ずる副産物もあった。テキストには日清戦争の副産物であり、清から連れて来られた一人女の不運な身の上が描かれている。芥川は本作品の一年後には将軍(大正十一年)で日露戦争を背景に乃木希典将軍を主人公に仕立て、戦争や皇国史観、軍国主義などの歴史問題を提起していた。なお、二年後の金将軍(大正十三年二月)では壬辰倭乱を背景に朝鮮の金応瑞将軍を主人公にして、｢いかなる国の歴史もその国民には必ず栄光ある歴史である｣と歴史認識問題を浮き彫りにしている。桃太郎(大正十三年七月)では御伽噺の桃太郎をパロディーして日本の侵略戦争と軍国主義を非難しいる。つまり、芥川は本作品だけでなく続いて戦争問題をテーマにした作品を発表している。テキストには主人公のお蓮の可憐な身の上が描かれている。彼女は日清戦争による被害者なのである。彼女は日清戦争のため、恋人の金が闇討ちに遭い、国を離れざるをえなかったのである。作者芥川は日清戦争の裏面に隠された孟蕙蓮という女の不幸を以て戦争の弊害を暴いているのである。なお、芥川は牧野の境遇をも以て作品を結んでいる。芥川は｢牧野も可哀そうな男｣といっている。牧野は敵国の女,孟蕙蓮を日本に連込んで妾にしたものの、その行為は軍人の品位を損傷したという不名誉の批判から逃れられないだろう。そういった意味合いで、牧野も戦争の被害者であるといっているのである。芥川は本作品の翌年に｢将軍｣を発表して日露戦争と帝国主義を批判したが、｢奇怪な再会｣ではお連と牧野を通して戦争を非難しているのである。
Abstract
“Mysterious Reunion” is a newspaper novel serialized in “Osaka Mainichi Shimbun” in January of the Taisho 10th year. This work contains sharp criticism of the war issue of the author Akutagawa Ryunosuke.In other words, Japan won the Sino-Japanese War and secured a bridgehead to advance into the continent, but behind it was also a by-product of the war.The text is a by-product of the Sino-Japanese War and depicts the fate of a woman brought from Qing.A year after this work, Akutagawa made Shogun Maresuke Nogi as the main character against the backdrop of the Russo-Japanese War and raised historical issues such as war, imperial historical view, and militarism.Two years later, “Kim Syo-gun” (February of Taisho 13) highlights the issue of historical perception, featuring General Kim Eung-seo of Joseon against the backdrop of the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, saying, “The history of any country must be a glorious history for its people.” In “Momotaro” (July of Taisho 13), he parodyed Momotaro of fairy tale, criticizing Japan’s aggressive war and militarism. In other words, Akutagawa not only published this work, but also subsequently published works on war issues. The text depicts the pitiable life of the main character, Oren. She was a victim of the Sino-Japanese War.She was a victim of the Sino-Japanese War. Because of the Sino-Japanese War, she had to leave the country because her lover’s Kim was attacked in the dark.Akutagawa, the author, is exposing the evils of the war due to the misfortune of a woman named Mo keiren, who was hidden behind the Sino-Japanese War. In addition,Akutagawa finished his work due to Makino’s circumstances.Akutagawa says, “Makino is also a pitiful man.” Makino brought the enemy woman Mo keiren into Japan and made her a concubine, but her actions would not be free from the disgraceful criticism that they damaged the dignity of military personnel.Akutagawa criticized the Russo-Japanese War and imperialism by announcing “Shogun” the following year,but in “Mysteriouse Reunion” he criticized the war through Oren and Makino.
