청소년의 학업스트레스와 정신건강에 있어 정서적 조절 능력의 조절효과

초록

본 연구는 한국청소년정책연구원의 청소년 패널 자료를 이용하여 우리나라 청소년의 학업스트레스와 정신건강간의 관계에서 정서적 조절능력의 조절효과를 검증하였다. 분석에 사용된 자료는 한국청소년정책연구원이 수집한 2006학년도 중학교 2학년 4차년도 자료이며, 분석대상은 일반고등학교 재학중인 2,233명이다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 SPSS 14.0 for Windows와 AMOS 5.0을 이용하여 측정모형을 검증하였고, Ping(1996)의 2단계 방법을 순차적으로 적용하여 조절효과를 검증하였으며, 측정모형과 경로 구조의 동일성을 가정한 모형과 경로계수의 동일성 제약을 추가한 모형간 적합도 비교를 통해 성별에 따른 교차타당도를 확인하였다. 분석결과 정서적 조절 능력의 조절효과가 입증되어 정서적 조절 능력이 높은 청소년과 낮은 청소년 모두 학업 스트레스는 정신건강에 나쁜 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 즉 정서적 조절 능력이 높은 청소년은 정서적 조절 능력이 낮은 청소년에 비해 정신건강 상태가 더 나으며, 특히 학업스트레스가 높더라도 정서적 조절 능력이 높은 청소년의 경우, 학업 스트레스가 정신건강에 미치는 부정적 영향을 완화시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이상과 같은 연구 결과는 향후 정서적 조절 능력에 대한 사회복지실천현장 뿐 아니라 사회복지학계의 관심이 증대되어야 함을 시사한다.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine moderating effect of emotional regulation on the relationship between academic stresses and psychological health of the adolescents. This study used data from the wave 4 (2006) of Korean Youth Panel Study (KYPS). This study analyzed data of 2,233 second grade high school students out of 3,121 students who participated in the KYPS. Structural Equation Modeling in AMOS 5 was adopted to examine measurement model and moderating effects of emotional regulation by using Ping's two-step model. The results show that 'emotional regulation' had a moderating effect on academic stress and psychological health of adolescents. 'Academic stress' also had a negative effect on psychological health of students who have either the high or the low level of emotional regulation. It implies that students with the high level of emotional regulation can keep their psychological well-being compared to those with the low level of emotional regulation. Especially when students have the high level of emotional regulation, the negative effect of academic stress on psychological health decreases. The results of this study imply that social work practice and academic fiends need to pay more attention to emotional regulation of adolescents.
