교육실습, 이상과 현실의 괴리 - 사회과 예비교사의 교육실습 경험에 대한 연구 -

본 연구는 사회과 교육실습의 목표와 실제 사이에 드러나는 이상과 현실의 괴리를 사회과 예비교사들의 교육실습 경험에 대한 내러티브를 통해 현상학적으로 접근·탐구하고자 한다. 연구자들은 서울 소재 한 교원양성기관에서 2012-2014년에 교육실습을 경험한 사회과 예비교사 286명이 작성한 교육실습일지에 대한 내용분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 과반수의 예비교사들이 사회과에서 실시할 수 있는 다양한 교수학습법을 적용해보고자 기대하였으나, 90%이상은 학교 분위기나 현직 교사의 관행에 따라 강의 등 전통적 교수법을 고수하였다. 둘째, 예비교사들은 학급경영과 학생상담의 경험을 통해 교직 실습을 할 수 있었던 점을 장점으로 꼽았으나 수업과 학급운영에 대한 사전교육 미비와 불충분한 실습 기회 및 교육실습생으로서의 역할 갈등이 문제점으로 드러났다. 셋째, 예비교사들은 사회과 수업에 대한 비판적 성찰 및 평가를 통해 교사전문성 함양을 기대하였으나 실제 현장에서는 순응을 강요받는, 혹은 스스로 내재하는 현상도 나타났다. 이와 같은 경험은 대다수의 예비교사들에게 교직과 교육 현실에 대한 좌절과 실망, 무력감을 느끼게 하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 결과를 통해 향후 교육실습의 내실화 및 질 개선에 있어서의 시사점을 제공하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study explored the gap between the ideal and reality of student teaching, by examining 286 social studies preservice teachers' experiences of student teaching in one teacher education program in South Korea. Grounded in a phenomenological approach to take an in-depth look into the narratives of the student teachers, the researchers analyzed their student teaching portfolio. Findings indicate that even though more than half of the student teachers expected to utilize and apply diverse pedagogical methods to their teaching, over 90% ended up relying on traditional methods, notably lecture given the rigid school atmosphere. Counseling with students and classroom management opportunities were meaningful experiences for the student teachers to develop professional skills and dispositions, yet there was a lack of systematic mentoring and supervision from the field. Moreover, the preservice teachers were expected to obey and internalize the traditional practices of the field, rather than developing critical outlook of the current educational phenomena. Such student teaching experiences offered the feelings of frustration, disappointment, and powerlessness regarding the teaching profession.
